Snead writes with the cynicism of a true heckler...someone who loves the game of baseball. Here are just a few examples:
On Short Guys: "You'd make a great shortstop, but all the grounders keep going over your head."
On Bad Baserunners: "I could take sequenced photos of you with a Polaroid camera."
On Brutal Players: "If brains were dynamite, you wouldn't have enough to blow your nose."
On Brutal Pitchers: "Your pitches have the velocity of a falling leaf"
Plus, "The 10 Commandments of Heckling" and all you can stand from his glossary of baseball terms, the Rules of Brutality, and the Brutality Theorem.
The Bleacher Bible II has all the fun of the first book plus:
•Chris' take on Sport or Not a Sport
•The best heckler stories from the Tech Hecklers
•The full and story of "The Mysterious Chicken"

Bob Snead was a decorated Army aviator who served with distinction for 30 years. He was awarded 41 air medals, two Bronze Stars with "V" devices, and three Purple Hearts. In his four tours of Vietnam, he is credited with the most confirmed kills of any attack helicopter pilot.

Bob Snead is a world -renowned artist credited with over 500 original works; however, he is most known for his 163-piece exhibit chronicling the Buffalo Soldiers, the all-Black regiments of the 9th and 10th Cavalry that served with distinction in the American southwest

Bob Snead portays Henry Ossian Flipper in the one-man, one-act play: Held in Trust. The play written and produced by Snead, Bea Bragg and Richard Hobbs details the life and times of the first Black graduate of West Point and the first commissioned Black officer in the US Army.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 George Robert "Bob" Snead was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on December 12, 2020. His final resting place in Section 81, Plot 421.

Bob Snead has been recognized numerous times for his military service, his talent as an artist and an actor. Among his many honors, he has been inducted into the El Paso Aviation and Artist Halls of Fame.

In January of 2026, The City and County of El Paso honored the lifetime of service and the many accolades of Bob Snead with the naming of a street in his honor.
See the story:

Wherever you go in college baseball, there is always a certain group of fans that seem a little more rabid than the others. At Dan Law Field, those rabid fans are known as The Hecklers. Established in 1995, The Hecklers are arguably college baseball's best fans.
The biggest advantage that Texas Tech baseball has at Dan Law Field is the fans and their involvement in the game. Tech baseball fans are known as some of the most knowledgeable and loyal fans in college baseball. The Hecklers have been selected by the Big 12 Conference as the top fans in the league for three consecutive seasons at the Big 12 Baseball Tournament.
The Hecklers are known throughout the Big 12 and the nation for their creativity when getting "in the kitchen" of Red Raider opponents. Heckler Chris Snead has written a book, Bleacher Bible, that contains various lines used to "rag" players, coaches and umpires. Also included in the book is the "Ten Commandments of Heckling."
The element that sets the Hecklers apart from other fans in the country is that they develop a relationship with the opponents throughout a series. When Southern California was in Lubbock during the 2000 season, catcher Beau Craig's birthday happened to be on the Saturday of that series. The Hecklers greated Craig on Sunday afternoon with cupcakes, banners, presents and a card signed by over 200 fans.
The Hecklers have a very entertaining and informative website at www.techhecklers.com. The website contains the History of the Hecklers, Ten Commandments of Heckling and the All-Heckler Team. There is a link to the site of "Hecklers North" which is a group of students famous for singing the "Gringo Song." Also found on the site are links to the organizations of former Red Raiders in professional baseball.
WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT TEXAS TECH FANS
Princeton head coach Scott Bradley at the 2000 NCAA Regional in Houston: "Their fans make it a lot of fun. As the game went on, our kids really enjoyed the atmosphere even though we didn't have as many people in the stands as we did last night (vs. Houston). The Texas Tech fans loosened us up and made us laugh and relax as much as anything."
USC Head Coach Mike Gillespie on USC's series at Dan Law Field:"It's a great experience for our players. We don't deal with this very often. We don't deal with this size of crowd or how electric it is."
USC catcher Beau Craig on Red Raider fans:
"They don't get too personal, and they know what they're talking about. They know baseball. They pick up on little details. I think the fans here are excellent. I don't think they're jerks. They're great baseball fans. And we would die to have those fans at our park."
"I like this place here more. At Texas, they're not jerks, but they're not that great. They're not good at it. A lot of them don't know what they're talking about, and a lot of them are obnoxious. Here, they're not obnoxious, they're funny. They know what they're talking about."
New Mexico State coach Rocky Ward:
"It will be interesting this weekend in Lubbock. That's the unique thing about that group, they're loud and entertaining and they are good for the home crowd. But they are also very classy. It's hard to get that accomplished. You want fans to be loud and rowdy and you want that continual pressure on opponents. But we never felt like they crossed the line and they gained some respect for us. They understand what the game is all about."
West Texas A&M centerfielder Mark Ohm:
"The raggers are the biggest thing. That's what we try to get them ready for. They make it more fun because it's a fun atmosphere. It's not like they're ragging us personally. We've been telling them about past games that we've played down there."

The Legend of the Chicken
The chicken made its triumphant debut during the Sunday game of Tech/UT series in Lubbock on March 25, 1993. Purchased as an afterthought at a local joke shop, the chicken was introduced to Tech fans on a whim with a game deadlocked at 4 runs apiece. A rope with a hangman's noose was placed around the neck of the chicken (a simple rubber dead chicken), and the chicken was run up the fence for the first time ever. The chicken remained on the fence until the Red Raiders pulled out a 5-4 victory over the hated Longhorns and Cliff Gustafson of the University of Texas. From that point on the chicken had taken on a special meaning. Now the Tech fans look forward to the raising of the chicken at Tech games as a symbol of Tech baseball and the Tech Hecklers. But the chicken does not represent that a Tech rally is imminent, there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to the raising of the chicken. In fact, it is wondered if there is any connection to the raising of the chicken and the game at all.
The chicken, which has almost become as famous as the Tech Hecklers themselves, has been the feature of Television news stories, been featured in newspaper articles, and is a featured member of the group. The chicken nearly got the Hecklers kicked out of the 1999 Big 12 Tournament when Chris Snead, the leader of the Hecklers tossed the chicken over a wire behind home plate. The chicken hung there for about 10 minutes until the OKC police "politely" asked him to lower the chicken or get a nice view of the OKC police jail facilities. At the 1998 Big 12 tournament, Mark Finkner and Ryan Hyatt hung the chicken out the window of the press box while providing radio coverage of the championship game win over Texas A&M. The chicken has been all over the United States, in fact, the chicken spent a day in the Atlantic Ocean at the beach in Miami when Tech was there in 1998, and in 2000 went to Long Beach, California, for a dip in the Pacific.
Recently, after much ballyhooing, it was felt that there was a need for a change in the meaning of the chicken. At first, the school of thought was that the chicken represented the "Duality of man and his plight against baseball." But after some thought, it was felt that this meaning was outdated and stale. After many conferences and meetings on the issue, it was decided that the chicken no longer represented the duality of man, but now represented "A paradigm shift from Heizenberg's theory of uncertainty, to the ordered harmony of feng shui." Thus, after a year of what we would consider harmony, we once again must wrestle with this query. It may be after much thought is given to the subject, that in reality, a chicken is just a chicken.
